RIDE GROUPS

Group 1 - > 38km +

To ride with Group 1 you need to be an experienced rider (possibly even racing at a high level) and able to maintain a very fast pace with an average of >38km/hour over large distances in excess of 70km+.

Group 2a - ~33km

To ride with Group 2a you need to have good group riding skills, and be able to maintain an average speed of ~33km/hr for the duration of the ride, which will usually be >60km in distance with ~600 meters of climbing.  For those working on building their fitness up to this group you can always start with Group 2a and drop back/get swept up by Group 2b later in the ride if your endurance starts to wane.

Group 2b - ~30km

In Group 2b the pace is usually an average of ~30km/hr for the duration of the ride, over distances of >60km with ~600 meters of climbing.

Group 3 - ~27km

In Group 3 the pace is usually an average of ~27km/hr for the duration of the ride, over distances of >60km, with up to ~600 meters of climbing.  People will be happy to give tips on riding in a group for those a little newer to this.  If you are not fit enough to complete the entire ride with Group 3 you are free to drop off at any point and as you improve hopefully you can complete more of the ride week to week.

If we are ever low on Group 3 numbers we will generally combine them with the Group 2b riders for the first part of the ride, but people can drop off when they choose to (for example on Sat at the top of Hamburger Hill, on Sun at the Carbrook intersection).

Group 4 - Introduction

In Group 4 the pace is never faster than the slowest rider! Created for beginners, riders coming back from injury, or after a number of years off the bike, for those just wanting to have a slow ride or have an introduction to riding in a group. (Raby Bay loops - Tuesday and Thursday), (Wellington Point (Wednesday), Victoria Point (Friday) - subject to numbers)

NOTE: If a participant wants to go faster they should move on to group 3

REGULAR SCHEDULED RIDES

Monday Recovery Ride - Cleveland to Wellington Point Return

When/Where:  Mon 5:00am @ Cleveland Library

What:  30-40km loop of Cleveland to Wellington Point Return

Groups:  G1, G2a, G2b, G3

Format:  No Drop (but with waiting points)

Strava Route:  https://www.strava.com/routes/25529188

Detail: Being a true recovery ride this ride is about being social, working to a moderate pace, and making sure we stick together. Everyone rides together in a peleton, two abreast, unless single is called out. Expectation is for no surging, to hold together as a pack, and to wait at the top of any hills or gradients for slower riders to catch up. The pace will pick up on Masthead Drive but slow down again after the turn on the roundabout at the end of Masthead. The pace then picks up after the last roundabout before Cleveland point, and again slows down at the turn, to ride back at a moderate pace to the coffee shop.

Special notes:  Most weeks we will try to run Groups 1-3.  If we are low on numbers on a given day the Group 3 riders are free to sit on the back of Group 2 for as long as they can, and drop off whenever they feel the need.

The lower groups will pick you up and you can join at the rear, please just let yourself be known, then start rotating with the group. There will be small regroup points along the way with the first being Main rd at Wellington Point, Hamburger Hill on Boundary Rd, slowing down just after the roundabout before entering Victoria Point, and after Manning Esplanade onto Colburn Ave. There are shortcuts for riders who struggle with the pace, which the Ride Leader can point out on the day.  We then head straight back to Middle St in Cleveland, but riders can also choose to go on to Cleveland point to add a few extra km's.
